Could you be a Reach Out Buddy and make a difference to people with learning disabilities or autistic people? Apply now!

We are looking for Reach Out Buddies who could provide support in a hospital or psychiatric hospital for people with learning disabilities or autistic people for a weekly chat on the phone of up to 45 minutes each session.

The project is supported by Bild, the Restraint Reduction Network, Grapevine, Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Reach Out Buddies would develop a positive relationship with the person they are ‘matched’ with through active listening and befriending with the overall aim of supporting individuals to speak up for themselves and to improve their well-being.

Reach Out Buddies would be supported by a Buddy Supervisor. We are looking for Buddies who have been detained under the Mental Health Act and individuals who have lived experience including experience or knowledge of restrictive practices (e.g. coercion, restraint, seclusion etc). Buddies would have the ability to identify and address barriers for the person being supported.

This job pays £150 for half a day and Reach Out Buddies can choose how they are paid.
