Coronavirus and obesity

Kate Brackley works at Bild and has been writing a series of blog posts for us to share her experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. This week she is looking at the issue of obesity.

Obesity is common all over the UK and for many people around the world, a huge population is overweight and clinically obese. This affects many people of different shapes and sizes.

In the news the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, said he wanted to tackle obesity. He is concerned what will happen if we don’t do something now.

More people will have complications of health concerns and worries for their future, and this could lead to serious illness if they don’t do something now to change the way they live.

From my experience, I have been seen as overweight and it was having a knock on effect as I had concerns and worries about my own health.

Since lockdown started I moved to my parent’s house and I saw for the first time that I was losing weight properly and since then I have achieved much success.

I have realised that I was somebody with a weight problem that could have much more going for me and that I was embarrassed.

Now looking back I wished I had done something sooner. I learnt the hard way and now I have decreased my chances of getting life long problems and I am enjoying life again. I have a lot more going for me and I am now receiving positive compliments about the way that I look and I feel great.

During lockdown there have been a lot of people, not just people that I know, but maybe others that would have increased their eating and have put on weight. It’s a lot harder to get it off again.

The new life is very, very slowly coming through and the world will look very strange for many people. When things do reopen again, it is more likely that people who do have a weight problem can slowly get a chance to do something about it.

I think the key message that I have written is a mixture of having exercise and also a healthy food plan going forward. Together the combination would make people lose weight better for life.

Having daily exercise is also really important, it keeps the motivation to have something to do and also there is other benefits too as it keeps you fully energised. It feels good to do something to make your heart work better.

There are many exercises that you can do, for example, cycling, running, swimming, walking, jogging, exercise classes, dancing and a lot more as well.

By reading this blog, it gives everyone a chance to do something and to be able to lose weight successfully and you too can make such a difference to your bodies. Exercise keeps you fitter for longer and also will make it so worthwhile. Without this for me I would still have a huge weight problem now. I hope that this is something that other people can address.

The health worries are things like heart attacks, diabetes, lung and liver problems and also your BMI results could be very high. If someone like me can achieve so much weight loss then others can too.
