Conference: Ageing Well with Dementia and Learning Disabilities

How can we help the people in our communities age well with dementia?

People with learning disabilities – particularly those with Down’s syndrome – are at increased risk of developing dementia (Alzheimer’s UK, 2021), and often from a relatively young age. When a person with learning disabilities develops dementia, they face unique and heightened challenges.

This summer, Bild’s Ageing Well online conference will present up-to-date information on dementia research, as well as practical strategies for supporting people who have dementia and learning disabilities.

Build: Personal and Professional Knowledge

Each day, attendees will hear personal stories from people with learning disabilities about their own experiences of dementia and learning disabilities, and join practical workshops to explore and discuss best practice. They will also discover the latest research on the diagnosis, presentation and management of the disease through a series of expert speakers from leading institutions across the UK.

Build: Strong Networking Opportunities

The Ageing Well conference will provide numerous opportunities to virtually ‘meet’ like-minded people through the virtual networking platform, Whova. Expect a variety of discussion boards, polls and essential resources as well as a fantastic range of keynotes and specialist workshops.

Build: A Clearer Picture

This illuminating and engaging three-day event will inspire you and your colleagues as you continuously strive to improve quality of life for those you work alongside and support.

The programme comprises two sessions each day:

• 10:00-11:30am: Keynote Presentation plus Q&A
• 1:00-2:00pm: Workshops 

Each afternoon, there will be a choice of four high-quality workshops to attend. The same four sessions will be repeated across the three days, giving you the opportunity to attend three out of the four throughout the conference.
