BILD, the leading UK provider of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) workforce development, has launched new guidance to help organisations identify the right training and support to embed PBS as part of their practice.
Ben Higgins, BILD CEO said:
“Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) helps us understand and meet a person’s needs in order to improve their quality of life.
A whole organisational approach is needed to embed PBS. Implementing a sustainable model of Positive Behaviour Support successfully requires more than attendance on a training programme, though this can be a good place to start the learning process. A PBS culture needs to be nurtured and supported so it is continuously developing.
Skills and knowledge in PBS need to be practiced, checked and encouraged in the workplace, and an effective way to do this is through on site practice leaders. These are people within the workplace who understand and are enthusiastic about PBS and can encourage and guide others who may not be so confident. Practice leaders can highlight good practice examples and through consistent working, the whole service can continually improve and make a real difference to the quality of life of the people they support.
We have published a PBS pathway to help organisations identify the right PBS training and support. We are committed to working collaboratively with providers, and identifying long term solutions that support the continuous development of skills across the organisation. This ensures a positive and lasting impact on people’s lives.
We are also supporting organisations to become centres for the development and sharing of good practice link to CAPBS centres document.
