Health inequalities are the differences in health experienced by different groups of people that are often avoidable and unjustified. Health inequalities are experienced by people with learning difficulties and autistic people throughout their lives. We want to change this.
Following the closure of long stay hospitals, more people with learning disabilities are growing older in the community. Bild champions the move from hospitals to homes, but serious inequalities are still experienced at every age and stage, impacting both physical and mental health. As a result, people with learning disabilities and autistic people are still dying twenty years younger on average, and are three to four times more likely to die from avoidable causes.
Our programmes give health and social care staff the knowledge and confidence to make a real difference to the health and wellbeing of those they support.
