About Positive Behaviour Support

About the Bild Centre for the Advancement of Positive Behaviour Support (CAPBS) model of PBS.

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is an evidence-informed, human rights-based framework for supporting people to live fulfilling and included lives. It does this by creating capable and supportive environments where people are understood and supported in ways that work for them.

PBS recognises that behaviour is a form of communication, shaped by a person’s experiences, relationships and environment. Behaviours of concern often indicate that something is not working well for the person.  PBS looks beyond behaviours of concern to understand and respond to the person’s strengths, preferences and unmet needs.

Good PBS practice is constantly evolving and is developed in partnership with people, their families and those who support them. It values lived experience alongside professional knowledge and research evidence.

PBS must be embedded across everyday support, practice leadership, and organisational culture, rather than delivered as a stand-alone intervention. Its impact is seen in enhanced quality of life, where people live less restricted lives and experience more meaningful engagement and inclusion.

All Bild PBS programmes are delivered by Bild’s Centre for the Advancement of Positive Behaviour Support (Bild CAPBS).
