Attachment Difficulties and Complex Trauma Programme

This two-day programme provides an in-depth exploration of attachment and complex trauma in adults with a learning disability.

The programme introduces attachment theory, the impact of disrupted attachment, and the psychological, social, and biological effects of trauma, with a focus on understanding why trauma-related difficulties can persist even after individuals are living in safer, more supportive environments.

Who’s it for?

Designed for practitioners supporting individuals with learning disabilities who have experienced disrupted attachments and/or complex trauma (such as abuse).  This would include multi-disciplinary team members, service managers and direct support staff.

What the programme involves

This two-day programme provides an in-depth exploration of attachment and complex trauma in adults with a learning disability. The programme examines how attachment difficulties and complex trauma may present in adulthood, including links to behaviours of distress, and by exploring how trauma-informed care can be integrated within a Positive Behaviour Support framework. Participants will consider theory and practice from a range of trauma-informed interventions and psychological approaches, with an emphasis on applying these within assessments and support planning.
