‘Communication is vital to us all as human beings. It enables us to socialise with others and make sense of what is going on around us. If we cannot speak, understand words or read and write very week we are often excluded unless others around us are prepared to change’
‘Communicating effectively with people with a learning disability’, BILD 2011
Our Effective Communication training identifies practical ways of supporting communication with people with learning disabilities and explores why, what and how people communicate.
Programme
BILD’s Communication programmes explore why, what and how people communicate. They examine the effect of the environment on communication, and the role of the communication partner.
Participants will learn about practical ways in which they overcome barriers to communication with people with learning disabilities
In addition to the one day programme ‘Introduction to effective communication’, BILD offers programmes which offer an in depth look at one particular aspect of communication:
- Sensory approaches to communication
- Visual approaches to communication
- Communication and behaviour
- Autism and communication
These programmes can be adapted to meet the specific needs of staff in your organisation, contact us to discuss what you are looking for and how we can help provide that for you.
