The BILD 2013 PBS International Research and Practice Conference - Promoting evidence based approaches

8-10 May 2013 - Brighton

The fourth international research and practice conference brought together thought leaders and practitioners to share their expertise, review the evidence and present the most recent findings on the use of positive behaviour support approaches in a range of settings for individuals with learning disabilities.

Positive behaviour approaches have now taken centre stage as the preferred way to support adults and children with learning disabilities whose behaviour is described as challenging. Our symposium and conference will offer academics, researchers and practitioners the opportunity to examine the data, explore ideas, share practice and listen to eminent speakers illustrate concepts, findings and thoughts on overcoming any barriers to implementation.

This conference outlined ways to turn the policy and research into daily practice and show how positive behaviour support approaches can be applied across a wide range of settings and supports. Speakers provided examples of frameworks for implementation, including qualitative outcomes from international perspectives.

As always, the overall aim was to be better able to support individuals in person centred ways and to learn skills that reduce reliance on challenging behaviour.
