Understanding Learning Disabilities


A BILD CPD Learning and Development Programme

Dates: 30 January 2019, Birmingham


Who is this for?

This course  is for anyone who would like to know more about learning disabilities and will benefit all those who work or come into contact with people with learning disabilities.

You will find this especially useful if you are completing the Level 3 Diploma in Adult care or the Level 3 Lead Adult

Care Worker apprenticeship. The course is closely linked to modules within these programmes.

The program will be delivered by an expert BILD consultant and content is derived from current evidence based practice and research

How will it help me?

Participants will gain a good understanding of some of the key issues that affect people with learning disabilities and learn key principles involved in supporting these people.

Elements of the programme include:

  • The nature and characteristics of learning disabilities
  • Legislation and policies that support the human rights and inclusion of people with learning disabilities
  • Promoting communication with people with learning disabilities
  • Basic principles and practice of advocacy, empowerment and active participation
