Positive behaviour support and autism

Content

This event will provide the participant with knowledge and understanding to promote positive behaviour in relation to people wit autistic spectrum conditions.

Participants will be expected to have a basic understanding of the possible causes of behaviour that presents a challenge in the context of autism.

The event will:

  • Use the principles of positive behaviour support to explore how support can be person centred and increase reliance on proactive approaches for supporting a person.

  • Give consideration to service frameworks, policies, reporting, recording and de-brief in relation to behaviour support. 

  • Examine strategies to increase a positive organisational culture.

  • Explore how assessment, implementation, monitoring, review and audit can be used to better inform practice and support positive outcomes for people.

  • Look at the context of current legislation and research and make reference to the principles that underpin best practice.


Who should attend?

Experienced professionals working in a range of roles and settings.  In particular those people working in specialist provision and supporting people who have autism and behaviours described as challenging.

Aim:

The event/ workshop will provide the participant with knowledge and understanding to promote positive behaviour in relation to people with autistic spectrum conditions.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand how legislation, frameworks, codes of practice and policies relate to positive behaviour support

  • Understand the context and use of proactive and reactive strategies

  • Be able to promote positive behaviour

  • Be able to respond appropriately to incidents of challenging behaviour

  • Be able to support individuals and others following an incident of challenging behaviour

  • Be able to review and revise approaches to promoting positive behaviour
 

This event covers some of the learning outcomes from the unit – Promote positive behaviour.  This can contribute to the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care. and Level 2 and 3 Awards and Certificates in Health and Social Care.

This event is suitable for people who are working at level 2 and 3

Learning will be facilitated through:

Event facilitators will employ a variety of delivery methods to include:

  • Case studies

  • Discussion

  • Pair and group work

  • Role play

 

They will use a variety of audio visual materials appropriate to the subject areas and audience.  Materials may include power-point presentations, handouts, dvd/video clips.

Handouts for the delegates to take away will support each training session, and a certificate of attendance will be handed out by the trainer at the end of each course
