Introduction to Positive Behaviour Support

The overall aim of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is to improve the quality of peoples lives. This event will give participants a basic understanding of PBS approaches and the underpinning value base which promotes the rights of adults and children who sometimes have behaviours that may concern us. It also provides an introduction to the scientific theory and evidence base on which PBS is based.

Who should attend

Everyone who is part of the delivery of PBS at any level, direct or otherwise.


Programme of the day:

  • Session 1: The values and components of Positive Behaviour Support 
    This session covers the value base underpinning good quality services and how they are reflected in the PBS framework 

  • Session 2: Person centred planning and action
    This session covers the importance of knowing the individual person and understanding their specific needs

  • Session 3: Providing supportive and capable environments
    This session provides and insight into the factors that influence a safe supportive environment

  • Session 4: Understanding behaviour
    This session covers the basic principles of understanding why behaviour occurs and introduces the concepts of assessment and analysis
