A BILD CPD Learning and Development Programme
The Assessing Capacity programme uses the terms of the Mental Capacity Act to improve quality of life and inform system-wide improvement.
This training will allow delegates to consider best practice and give them an opportunity to explore its application to them and their service through practical exercises.
The programme will deliver theoretical learning in the context of case law and consider how to translate this to best practice within services. Delegates will consider the importance of applying the 5 statutory principles service / organisational wide and consider the empowerment as the most important part of MCA practice.
Training will be delivered over a two day period running concurrently (plus a further one day, six weeks later, where delegates will feed back workplace assignments). Delegates will need to attend all three days, and successfully complete the required assessments.
Who should attend
This programme is for managers who are identified in operational policies as being directly responsible for undertaking Mental Capacity assessments and who want to become more competent in Mental Capacity Act assessments and best interest processes.
During the course the following areas will be explored in detail:
- How current guidance relates to practice
- Different aspects of assumption of capacity and the competences needed to assess capacity
- Considerations needed for best interest an unwise decision making
- The principle of least restriction
- Service wide implementation of the five key principles of the Act
