Practice Leadership - Getting it right at the frontline

A BILD CPD Learning and Development Day

7 & 8 June, and 10 July, 2017 - London

A two day classroom based training programme with a third day as an assessment of a work based assignment

Strong practice leadership is essential to ensure that the consistency of support and quality of life for people with learning disabilities who are supported by social care or health services is of a high standard.

We know from recent serious case reviews that exemplary policies are not effective in ensuring high quality support, unless there is a leadership/management focus on making sure they are translated into frontline practice. In order to ensure organisational cultures support policy and practice, managers should think and act as practice leaders.

Who is this event for?

This course is designed for managers, team leaders, PBS practitioners/consultants and advisors who are directly involved in frontline practice.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the course participants will:

  • Describe/define what is meant by practice leadership and recall the essential features of the approach
  • Explain why having a good understanding of the principles of practice leadership can aid the delivery of high quality service provision
  • Have an understanding of the research that has been undertaken into the subject that supports the connection between positive behavioural support, active support and practice leadership
  • Understand the importance of embedding good practice into the culture of an organisation
  • Be able to explain the distinction between management and leadership and the need for a balance
  • Understand why specialist services need measurement
  • Be able to discuss why practice leadership needs to be driven by data and measurement
