Sunderland Care and Support

A happy group from Sunderland Care and Support who've successfully passed the PBS Coaches programme - now they're qualified to join the CAPBS Coaches Network!

The CAPBS Coaches Network- Providing ongoing support and development for those leading change within organisations

The CAPBS Coaches Network is a forum for individuals and their organisations to discuss challenges and share good practice in implementing Positive Behaviour Support within organisations, with peers.

It offers opportunities to share practice informally and at CPD events and meetings coordinated by the Centre.

The Network’s members are those who have successfully passed the CAPBS Coaches Programme, an intensive three day training programme that gives Coaches the confidence and knowledge they need to develop accessible PBS materials and deliver practical PBS implementation strategies within their own organisations.

The Coaches come from range of organisations and service types - NHS trusts, schools, residential and community support, the Network links everyone who has completed the programme and is working to implement PBS within their organisation.

Many of the same challenges in embedding PBS approaches successfully within support are experienced in organisations across the UK. Some find solutions to these challenges, so it makes sense to connect with other Coaches who have the same mission of improving the quality of life for adults and children through Positive Behaviour Support.

Sue Wilding of Hertfordshire County Council, and Robin Bradbury of JSB Training, were participants on a Coaches course run by BILD's Centre for the Advancement of PBS. In this video taken on their course, they tell us why a Positive Behaviour Support approach is the right way to work with people who may use behaviours of concern to express themselves. Why might they be doing this?

CAPBS Coaches Network Summits

The first CAPBS Coaches Network event took place in November 2015 and provided an opportunity for Coaches to network, discuss ideas and approaches with CAPBS consultants as well as exchange experiences and share ideas around workplace information materials with other coaches.

Since then, two more have taken place, the November 2016 Summit featured a masterclass from Gary LaVigna for IABA, Los Angeles.

Regional Coaches meetings

The first Regional Network meetings, in Milton Keynes and in Rotherham, took place in March 2017.

We also love to hear your stories of how the PBS Coaches Programme has impacted your own practice, those you serve, and your organisation. You can use this case study template as a guide to telling your story and email your completed story to e.robinson@bild.org.uk.

“The BILD PBS Coaches Programme is a great course for developing staff to lead on the development of PBS within an organisation. It's so important to get the introduction of PBS right and the BILD PBS Coaches Programme was so valuable to our organisational implementation of PBS. After their training, our Coaches went out and delivered a series of workshops to managers about PBS and what it meant for our organisation.”

Darren Sanders - National Learning and Development Manager, Mencap

The CAPBS Positive Behaviour Support Coaches Programme

An intensive programme for practitioners with some practical experience of positive behaviour support who would like to extend their knowledge and support the implementation of a positive behaviour support approach within their organisation.

This four day residential programme will provide participants with the opportunity to discuss the current context of PBS and the specific elements of a PBS approach, as well as what should be in a behaviour support plan, restrictive practices and how to embed PBS within services and organisations.
