This one day programme explores the nature of ‘behaviours of concern’ including their causes and the consequences they have for the quality of life for those children and young people experiencing them. Participants are introduced to ‘Positive Behaviour Support’ and how this may be used to improve outcomes for looked after children and those who support them.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the day learners will:

Demonstrate an understanding of the term ‘behaviour’ and ‘behaviours of concern’

Be able to describe some of the causes of behaviours of concern: in particular group living, attachment, trauma and loss

Demonstrate an understanding of ‘functions’ of behaviour
- Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of post incident support for both young people and those who support them
- Demonstrate an understanding of the role of Positive Behaviour Support in promoting positive behaviour, quality of life improvements and reducing restrictive practices

Staff who support young people living in residential children’s homes, including Local Authority, private and voluntary sector organisations. Case responsible Social Workers, Guardians, Independent Reviewing Officers and those with regulatory responsibility would also find this programme useful.
