PBS Leadership Awards 2013

An evening to celebrate the best in positive behaviour support

The BILD PBS Leadership Awards recognise good practice and contributions to the development of positive behaviour support practice and aim to raise practice by recognising work of quality and quality of contribution over time. 

Thursday 9 May in Brighton saw this year's BILD PBS leadership awards dinner, an important part of BILD's annual PBS Research and Practice Conference, and a celebration of the best in positive behaviour practice both in the UK and internationally.

Martin Bertulis 2013 PBS award winner

Winner of the Award for Innovative Practice was Martin Bertulis, Planning and Practice Advisor at MacIntyre (pictured above receivng his award from Alan Jefferson, Chair of BILD Trustees). Nominated for his commitment to staff training, development and support as well as a genuine commitment to supporting children and young people with severe autism and behaviours that challenge, Martin has developed approaches that enable children and young people to take control of the decisions in their life and focus on their emotional well-being.

Martha McGinn and Parents Association Ireland were Commended in the International Award category for the development, delivery and impact of a training program for parents of children who have intellectual disability and or autism.

Winner in this category was Karen Nankervis, Director of the Centre of Excellence for Behaviour Support, Queensland who has developed an evidence based framework for early intervention aimed at providing improved outcomes for families affected by crisis. This is being used to underpin new initiatives aimed at reducing the numbers of children and young people being taken into full time residential care across Queensland. neither of the International Award winners could be present, their awards were collected for them by Sharon Paley and David Allen.

Jonathan Beebee 2013 PBS award winner

Commended in the Leader of the Future Award was Jonathan Beebee of Southern Health NHS Trust.

Paul Taylor 2013 PBS award winner
The Winner of the Leader of the Future Award was Paul Taylor (pictured above with Professor David Allen who presented these awards) a teacher at Linden Bennett Special School in Hounslow, London, for his programme 'Changing the culture of behaviour support in a primary special school'.

 

The purpose of the BILD PBS Leadership Awards is to celebrate good practice and recognise work of high quality - this year's winners were more than worthy of this praise.
