BILD is part of the Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) Health and Wellbeing Alliance. We make up part of the Valuing People Alliance in partnership with Learning Disability England and the National Development Team for Inclusion.
The VCSE Health and Wellbeing Alliance is formed of 21 national organisations that reach a wide range of communities facing significant health inequalities, and are able to represent the collective views of the VCSE sector.
The role of the Valuing People Alliance in this forum is to represent people with learning disabilities.
The VCSE Health and Wellbeing Alliance aims to amplify the voice of the sector and people with lived experience to:
- inform national policy
- facilitate integrated working between the voluntary and statutory sectors
- Facilitate co-produced solutions to promote equality and reduce health inequalities.
The alliance works closely with Department of Health, Public Health England and NHS England.
It also aims to bring the VCSE sector’s voice and expertise into national policy making.

The Valuing People Alliance: A coalition of BILD, NDTi and LDE
The Valuing People Alliance is a coalition of BILD, the National Development Team for inclusion and Learning Disability England. We also work closely with the Challenging Behaviour Foundation, Respond, Paradigm-UK, and other Voluntary and Community Sector Enterprise (VCSE) organisations
We are committed to improving the health and well-being of all people with learning disabilities. This includes all people with learning disabilities including those who have autism and/or mental health conditions, and people who may be in contact with the criminal justice system, and their family/carers. We are keen to work collaboratively with other members of the alliance where we can mutually enhance and strengthen each other’s work.
We are solution focused. We are therefore interested in developing best practice guidance. However we are aware best practice guidance is not always implemented so impact may be limited. Therefore any best practice guidance we develop will be supported by a webinar, use of social media and other communication methods such as blogs and newsletters.
Where possible, it will be supported by a Community of Practice to share learning and practical tips. By having suites of work like this we can maximise our impact.
Examples of areas of work we are interested in include:
- Advocacy (self-advocacy and non-instructional advocacy)
- Reasonable adjustments
- Restraint Reduction
- Transforming Care and improving support in the community for people with complex needs
- Workforce development
- Driving up quality and developing Positive organisational culture
- Human Rights based approach
- Tackling the determinants of health inequalities including unemployment, poor accommodation,
- isolation, discrimination and lack of access to services
