Below is a short video of the day kindly produced for us by Richard Lamplough of Won't Ever Be

Listen to self advocates

Build for the Future is a group of self advocates from advocacy organisations across the country. They work with BILD to make sure that our work is rooted in the real life experiences of people with learning disabilities and their families.

We asked them what they thought was important in their lives and about their work in Build for the Future.

"It's all about families, friends and relationships". Darren is a self advocate in Sheffield.

"Best thing in my life? Owning my own flat and being independent". Teresa is a member of Build for the Future.

"Discrimination makes me angry". Michael is a self advocate in Telford in Shropshire and a member of the National Forum.

"I never thought that I could be so independent". Kate is an self advocate, in Worcestershire and nationally.

"Be kind to other people". Tim a self advocate from Somerset, tells us about being bullied in school and what he does in his work.

"It's opened more doors for people for people". James, 'JT', helps run a dating agency for a self advocacy organisation.

Listen to family carers and supporters

Build for the Future also includes members who are family carers or supporters.

Tina: "Personalisation works". Tina is a family carer and has been through the personalisation experience with her son, James.

Andrew: "advocacy gives people the confidence to say how they want to move forward with their lives". Andrew works in a advocacy service in Shropshire.

Katrina: "Everybody matters". Katrina is a family carer and supporter in Sheffield and is a member of  the Build for the Future group.

Tina: "Professionals need to listen to family carers, they are important"
