Positive behaviour support: defining
good practice for children and young people
12 March, Warwick
This event will highlight positive ways of working and discuss how we can
recognise and address poor practice. The event will seek to explore aspects of
positive behaviour support while also discussing:

Practitioner Positive
Behaviour Support
Masterclass: 8 and 9 February 2010 – venue to be confirmed, Midlands
A two day event for middle managers, teachers, head teachers and
team leaders and other professionals who have responsibility for the
implementation of local service policy and practice. The event will
explore the principles of positive behaviour support, identify why
behaviour may be viewed as socially invalid, discuss thefunctions of
behaviour, and support the implementation of individual behaviour
support packages.

Ethical Approaches to Physical Interventions
Volume II – changing the agenda
Seminar and book launch: Wednesday 14 October 2009 – BILD Offices,
Kidderminster, Worcestershire
This event will officially launch a new publication Ethical
Approaches to Physical Interventions Volume II. This is a key event
in BILD’s work in the field of positive behaviour support.
In May 2009 BILD launched its new Positive Behaviour Support Mission
and this event will ensure the vision and work continues to move
forward. With an opening keynote from Professor David Allen, a
leading researcher and practitioner in the field, this event is not
to be missed by any professional with an interest in this field of
work.

Supporting individuals with self injurious behaviour
Conference: 11 February 2010 – BILD Offices, Kidderminster
Considerable study and research has been undertaken regarding the
incidence of self injury amongst individuals with a learning
disability. This mini conference will explore the relationship
between the different functions served by such behaviour and
appropriate support approaches with a view to separating fact from
fiction.
Key themes such as functional analysis and emergent management
methodologies discussed during the day. There will be the
opportunity to share issues, challenges and best practice to enable
all delegates to develop their approaches knowledge.

Building networks to help deliver self directed support
Speakers John Lord and Charlotte Dingwall from
Facilitation Leadership, Ontario, Canada
Seminar: Wednesday 7 October 2009 – venue to be confirmed, Midlands
A New Story is emerging across Canada around the use of
individualised approaches and support for people with a learning
disability. Much of this work has involved strengthening of social
networks. This event will give an overview of developments in Canada
relating to the values and principles of self directed support; the
social networks for people with learning disabilities and their
families; building capacity for collaboration and innovation.
Delegates will have an opportunity to consider the importance of
strengthening people with learning disabilities and their families
in order that they can play a leading role in the development of
self directed support.

Person centred positive behaviour support
Conference: 27 November 2009 – venue to be confirmed, Midlands
A one day event that will enable practitioners to explore a range of
related topics from varying perspectives. Positive Behaviour Support
isn’t just fashionable terminology – it is an approach that is
evidence based and can achieve real change and outcomes. It is a
positive alternative for those people who may at times have
exhibited behaviour that has challenged services.
This event will highlight the experiences of individuals, families
and professionals and enable delegates to explore how to put theory
into practice. The day will use real life examples to explore how we
can support people and work with them to improve the quality of
their lives. The day will place emphasis on the importance of
communication, relationships and valuable experiences for supporting
people to develop and progress.

Real jobs – deal or no deal?
Practical support to turn Valuing Employment Now into practice Conference:
Thursday 4 March 2010 – venue to be confirmed, London
This event provides the opportunity for three national employment champions to
focus on Valuing Employment Now. They will share their own perspective on the
cross government policy but more importantly will provide practical steps that
delegates can take to turn policy into practice in their own organisation or
situation.
