Case study
Liverpool University
Moving on with Learning
BILD were recently commissioned to deliver training to Peer Advocacy Changing Things Together (PACTT) from Liverpool University. The group made up of people with learning disabilities and their supporters received training on Understand Sexual Health and Understand Sexual Expression.
The two days attempted to bring together people and principles with the aim of identifying, exploring and challenging our assumptions of sexuality and sexual health. Participants were encouraged to step out of their comfort zone and embrace feelings and ideals that had previously been taboo.
David Coyle BILD Training Associate: ‘The two days were negotiated between the participants and facilitator ensuring the issues discussed and materials developed were accessible to all in the group’
Angela Powell who commissioned the training said ‘The Peer Advocates, to
which the training was delivered, all excelled in managing their feelings,
thoughts and expressions in an honest, positive, productive and fun way. By the
end of the two sessions, it was clear that dimensions of growth had occurred.
This has given Peer Advocates tools to not only understand and manage their own
sexuality and sexual health but that this can be used in an advocacy capacity as
PACTT continue giving their spectrum of support and valuable friendships.
These were two fantastically insightful and fun training days’
After both days had taken place the participants were asked to think of a word
or phrase that summarised what they thought of the workshops.
These were written down and captured in pictures:
