Safeguarding Adults

BILD offer a suite of training programmes under the umbrella of Safeguarding Adults ranging from basic awareness to more detailed investigation and interview workshops. A refresher course has also been developed, which focuses on the impact of new legislation, aimed at staff who have already undertaken basic awareness training.

BILD is well placed to meet the challenges of forthcoming regulations, such as the introduction of the Safeguarding Vulnerable Group Act 2006 and to work with organisations to ensure systems reach a balance between promoting choice and independence whilst also protecting vulnerable people from abuse and exploitation. BILD has experience of working with statutory and voluntary agencies to develop and deliver training covering both local priorities and the national agenda.

BILD training consultants, with extensive knowledge and experience of Safeguarding Adults work, are well equipped to offer guidance and support in reviewing organisational policy & procedures.

If you would like further information or would like to discuss how BILD can help your organisation please contact Valerie Wilkinson on v.wilkinson@bild.org.uk or 01562 723022 or Amy Jones on a.jones@bild.org.uk or 01562 723041

Joint Committee on Human Rights - Adults with Learning Disabilities Enquiry

BILD was invited to run a briefing session to members and staff of the Joint Committee on Human Rights - Adults with Learning Disability Enquiry.

The aim of the session, which lasted just over an hour was to make members of the committee aware of the issues associated with communicating effectively with adults with a learning disability and to help the committee adjust its working practices.

Annie Lawton and Martin Hopewell ran the session and a full account of their experience can be found here.

Person Centred Planning Training
St. Andrew’s Group of Hospitals

BILD has recently delivered training to a group of staff who support people with learning disability and mental health needs at St. Andrew’s Group of Hospitals in Northampton.

The programme ran for five days and participants who included nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and social workers, were able to explore issues relating to the implementation of person centred planning within low and medium secure provision.

John Calvert who commissioned the training said ‘Without doubt the best course I have ever been on. Well paced and informative. Highly interactive but in a non threatening way. Simon Bickerton who delivered the training, has the ability to make the subject matter come alive. We are converted! and can leave with a collective desire to effect change in our hospital.

If you would like to know more about person centred approaches training or any other training BILD provide, please contact Valerie Wilkinson on v.wilkinson@bild.org.uk or 01562 723022

Creating Celebrations

BILD We all enjoy celebrating key moments; whether it's a birthday, an achievement, the beginning or end of a project or the turning of the year. For some schools and organisations this can prove difficult, when the staff have had little experience of running events. Additionally, finding ways to enable people to participate in a meaningful way can prove a challenge.

If you are keen to improve on your celebrations, then this course is for you. BILD can offer you a one day 'overview' course. Or arrange for the trainer, Morag Scally, to work directly and provide an extended course with your organisation to develop skills and opportunities.
