Learning Disability Awards Framework (LDAF)

The Learning Disability Awards Framework (LDAF) is a major government initiative introduced in the 2001 White Paper Valuing People. It is designed to ensure that all staff in learning disability services have the opportunity to receive an accredited qualification in working with people with learning disabilities. BILD offers a range of materials to support managers and trainers delivering LDAF units at Levels 2, 3 and 4 including trainer packs, workbooks, assessment CDs and learner packs.

Induction

All staff new to learning disability services are required to complete a LDAF induction programme in the first six weeks of work (Valuing People, Department of Health, 2001).

A package of training materials for managers and trainers to support a new members of staff starting work with people with learning disabilities. The pack contains:

• a comprehensive trainer’s guide with timed session plans, supporting overhead transparencies, course handouts and activity sheets
• more in-depth material in the trainer’s reader for the manager or trainer to read before each session
• a CD with overhead transparency masters, course handouts and activity sheets to print out and use
• induction workbook for use by participants who cannot attend every session

Written by an experienced learning disability trainer and practitioner, the pack covers:

• you and your job, including an introduction to the workplace and working with others
• the principles of care that underpin services and what they mean for new workers

• the meaning of ‘challenging behaviour’, the relationship between challenging behaviour, emotions, communication and personal power, and some of the factors that influence behaviour

The course provides all the content needed to deliver the LDAF Induction – Learning Disability unit at Level 2.
